Anyone know how to get this message your guage cluster? I don't know how the cap got loose, because the message came up after 3/4 of a tank of fuel had been run out - maybe someone tried to steal gas. Anyway does anyone know how to get rid of the message? Disconnect the battery?
I would think that if you had already tightened the Fuel cap and you still have the message coming up you might possibly have a pressure leak in your tank somewhere ...might even be a Bad Gas Cap. I would try disconecting the battery first for like 10-15mins then reconnecting it. If it doesnt clear then I would suggest dealer if still under warranty.
At times it may take up to 48 hrs. for the system to correct the display. As long as the cap is securely on now, the message should disappear within a day. If not, go to the local Autozone and they will be able to repost the code.
I believe Autozone is not authorized to clear codes. An employee may do it for you, but I think their policy prohibits clearing codes. I was told by Murrays that you can borrow their code reader and clear codes yourself.
The cap was found loose on Monday. It is now Friday and the message remains. I am going to disconnect the battery this weekend and see what happens. Truck has 36,800 miles - so no more trips to the dealer for me.

Autozone clears them all the time as does Advance. On my car, the gas cap problem turned out to be a leak in the charcoal cannister.
I believe that that is part of the Emmisions Warranty and is longer than your regular 3yr-36000 mile warranty. Call your dealer, I believe that it will be fixed at no charge.
I had an O2 sensor I replaced on a vehicle,(check engine light was on) at my local autozone one person on the phone said they would clear the code, when I went there and asked them to clear the code, I was told they can get into trouble for doing it.

I didnt even think about that. I beleive the required Federal warranty on emissions is 8/80K so you would be covered. ANd It is an emissions problem if your Tank is not sealing correctly.
You can purchase the code readers for about $120 for a good one and be able to check and clear codes yourself. I bought one and it was a great purchase and very worth it.
