speedometer failed 98 ranger HELP!!
Well maybe the replacement VSS was bad!!!! Just because it was new, doesn't automatically make it good, I've seen bad parts right out of the box!!!!
As the speedo is electrically driven in this model, if you have a scan tool that'll read PID's, you could hook it up, drive the vehicle while monitoring the speedo signal & see if the computer is outputing anything to the speedo.
If not, sounds like maybe there might be something wrong with the wiring or a connector, from the computer to the speedo, the computer itself, from the VSS to the computer, or the VSS itself.
Do you have any trouble lights lit, like ABS or Check Engine lights, If so, scan the computer for trouble codes & see what it's unhappy with, may be a good clue stored there. If you have a ABS light on, that to me would suggest something is wrong with the VSS signal.
Let us know what you find.
