Question Trans fluid change-confusing!

I have a '97 3.0 shorty with 87,000 mi. I have searched this forum on when to change the trans fluid. I don't think mine has ever been changed. it doesn't look bad, seems to have good color, shifts fine.
The problem is, there is a split about changing the fluid. Some say change no matter what the milage, others say don't change if the milage is up in the 60,70,000 range because this can lead to early failiure.
Is it a crap shoot? Should I or shouldn't I?
Anybody know?

It is suggested to do it every 2 years unless you do a lot of towing which in this case once a year would do, If you have never changed it I suggest you do it, it would not hurt and you'll have a new filter and fluid for while.

Even this forum cant beat a "service manual " This valuable book which cost about 15 bucks is well worth it and can answer your service time questions. I change mind at 30k with the proper fluid and new filter.
