Tire Size??

I have a '02, F-250, Crew Cab. The factory tire size is 265/75/16. This truch is my work truck. I really don't want to mess with the stock suspension. How big of a tire can I get on this truck? It looks like I could do 31's but, I'd hate to spend the money & find out I'm wrong. So what is it guys, 31's, 33's, maybe 35's?

JeffG,

You can run 295/75/16's (33.2x11.5)on factory rims w/ no clearance problems. You may be able to go a little wider, but I haven't run them so I can't guarantee it.

BFG and Nitto have nice looking all terrains in this size. Fills the wheel well up nicely.

The 265's are 31" tall.... 285x75R16 works as well as 255x85R16. Both are close to 33" tall. The 285's are wider.

When I had my F250 4x4 stock height I was able to fit 35x12.50x16.5R BFG All Terrains.

305's on 16x10's stock height with the only rubbing at full left lock in reverse (made the liner a little shiney) I wouldn't reccomend anything wider than stock (265's) on factory wheels, but thats just me.

The stock rim is 7 inches wide, I wouldnt run a larger tire than stock.

285/75 or 255/85 as V10man stated... I wouldn't got any wider than a 285 on a stock rim.

i have had two sets of 285/75/16 on stock rims and they are great, good width for bad conditions but not to wide to cause problems or real bad front end wear, milage isn't affected either, if you don't see bad conditions(mostly hard pack and some loose stuff) i would stick with the 265's thery are cheaper and a good pattern works well. 285's have a lot of popularity with these trucks stock.

You Guys are great! Thanks for the info. I'm in Northern NH, about 60 miles from canada. I have a set of steel wheels with studded Cooper Discoveries, 235/85/16. The rest of the year I run the factory chrome wheels. The 265/75/16 just don't fill the wheel well, they look small to me. Thanks again.

There's very little difference between a 285/75/16 and a 295/75/16

Here's the specs from BFG's page on all terrains.

Size Width Height Weight Rating
LT285/75R16/D 11.4 on 8 32.8 3305@65
LT285/75R16/E 11.3 on 8 33 3750@80
LT295/75R16/D 11.5 on 8 33.2 3415@65

Can't go wrong w/ either one.

I had 285 on my 02 F350 and the tread would always hit the springs on tight turns. I had the standard suspension and I liked them but with 4x4 you are going to hit the springs on the front end when you make tight turns. I know this because I had one and I had the toyos and had over 33,000 on them when I traded for and 06 cc and they still had over half the tread left.

'05 and up can fit 35" tires in stock form, and I'm guessing this is what you have??
