My pick-up goes unused for several months at a time. I have hade some fuel delivery problems, most likely, due to this. I know that the tanks should be full if it it going to sit for a while, but if it is going to sit for several months should I use a fuel additive? If so, does anyone know of a good one? Any other tips????
Well petrol in general changes over time. Like if let gas sit for a while, all the sulfurous compounds will desolve and it'l eventually turn into water. Now diesel I'm not too sure about...because it's less refined I wouldn't be able to tell you what certain properties it has. Generally speaking you should put some of that stuff in the fuel tank and let your truck for about 20 minutes so that it can work its way into the engine. I think over time you should add more of it because it may desolve somehow and its effectiveness might lessen.
I'm not sure, but I do know that if you let diesel sit too long it will lose its lubrication. On the farm we put a quart of transmission fluid in our tractors tank when we will up to restore lubrication.
Andy, I understand it has been done for years but there's older post about "fuel additives" and goes into a long detailed account on "why" you shouldn't put tranny fliud into our tanks....Dave S or some one could explain it in detail, all I know for the price new injectors and an IP, we should stick with a proper "fuel additive"
