well i just bought my truck, and teh few times iv filled the truck up the gage has been wroking on the dash as well as the one on the over head consel. now i filled up today, started up and was leaving the station and my gas gage drops all the way down, like as if the truck was turned off. though my overhead is telling me im good for 370 miles on my tank of gas. whats up with that? and then when i got home the gas gage started to read a quarter tank, and then now its at almost half now.
should i unplug the batteries? reset the computer?
also where is that fuel filter? i looked behind the plastic thing above the engine that says powerstroke on it. but i didnt see anything? nore a yellow drain valve? is there a picture to what and where this fuel filter is and looks like?
The overhead console is lovingly called the lie-o-meter around here. Did you fill while idleing?? The fuel sending unit will not reset until the key is cycled.
i was also thinking of going to auto zone tonight to get a manual on the truck and maybe pick up a new fuel filter and or air filter, though i think i will just order the AIS kit. dose the AIS make alot of noise? dose it get anoying on long trips?
no it was shut off when i was filling it. and it was reading pritty good before i pulled in at just a bit below quarter tank. and i put in just almost 22 gallons of diesel into the 29gallon tank. so i gues about 7gallons is a little below quarter tank. so it was working at that point. but after fill up it didnt read any differently, and as i was pulling out of the station it just dropped, and the check gastank light came on, and the car bing at me. sorry, DIESEL.. but ya..
full service as in coolent flush, trany fluid flush, front and rear axle oil flush, and transfercase oil change?
when i bought it the used car dealership did an oil change on it. but i think that may have been it. they always say they are checking over the rest of the truck before u buy it, but who knows how good of a job they do?
but im still lost as to where and what the fuel filter looks like.
Under the "Powerstroke" Beauty Cover on the engine, plastic cap with ridges in it
Service kinda depends on the mileage and how well you belive the previous owner took care of her and how complete their records are. But doing those will do nothing but help extend the strokers life
i found the filter, i got a service manual at autozone, that big round black plastick thing behind the other plastick cover that says powerstroke on it. oh and when i got home from autozone, i got in my truck, started it up, and repossisioned it in the drive way, and once i moved it and put it back in park "while still idling" the gas gage slowly shot all the way to full. weird? but who knows?
