I have a 2004 F1504x4. It has been taken care of. It is an automatic. My problem is that my overdrive just stopped working. 1st through 3rd and reverse work fine. With the overdrive on, it just wraps out the RPMs and acts as if it is in neutral. I have brought it to a Ford service center and it was put on the diagnostic machine and it showed no problems with the codes. The transmission pan was dropped and there are no shavings, chunks, etc. The filter and fluid were replaced and it is still not operating in OD.....any solutions short of replacing the tranmisssion?
Check the fuse panel for a blown fuse that sends power to the trans (look in the manual if there is such a fuse). When the OD is de-activated at the shifter, does the OD OFF light turn on?
One of them rode with me and said the transmission could fall out of the truck at any given time and that they could replace it for $3000.00
Well obviuosly it is out of warranty so I would try some other routes then your dealer. Possibly a transmission shop or even another dealer...anyplace that will actually diagnose the problem and give you an honest answer. There is now way in hell that a tech can just ride along and determine that the tranny will fall out at any givin time. Last time I checked...Trannys arent that easy to remove when you actually want to take them out...let alone coming out on there own.
Zee, I highly doubt you need a new trans. It sounds as though something has gone wrong "Electrically". What I mean by that is something like a shift control solenoid. Like suggested, bring it to at least a few other shops and get there input. Let us know how you make out
