Ok well here is my headache. I live in a 1 bedroom apt and we have 2 dogs and a cat. Well we only paid the pet deposit for the cat. Reason being we did have the extra grand for the dogs. So our little puppy goes to the bathroom on these dog training pads (not all the time just when he didnt go when we took him outside) well sometimes he misses the pads. Also he tore up a part of the carpet, about 4 inches wide and about 4-5 feet long along a sliding glass door.
So now to the point, we talked to the apt. complex and they said they would tear up the carpet and see if there is any urine stains in the carpet pad, and if there were it would cost $500 to replace the WHOLE carpet. So im wondering if I can just profesionally clean the carpet ($200) and get that out. AND if I could replace the torn up carpet next to the door my self.
Now here is the problem if we clean the carpet that is $200 and then the apt complex says its not good enough then we have to pay the $500 on top of that to replace the carpet.
Wow this is long.
OR here is another option. I really dont think they would spend the labor time on ripping up the carpet to see if there are stains in the pad. So if I could rent one of those rug doctors from Kroger and clean it my self. That would cost about $100 and then fix the torn up carpet my self also.
So what do you think?
Sorry this is so long. I really need help here. I have no idea what to do. We really cant afford the $500 to replace the carpet. We can barely afford to pay rent and bills as it is. So saving as much money as we can is really important. So thx again.
Personally I think your screwed. By talking to the manager you already let them know that there is probably urine there so they will make you pay. Why should they take a chance, its your loss not theirs.
I wouldnt have said a word, I would not invest any of your time or money in cleaning the carpet, The Apartment is going to claim there are stains under it regardless of if there are or not. They are in business to turn a profit
When you move out, you're gonna lose your damage deposit anyway, so why pay for it twice. How much is the damage deposit btw? And, when you do replace the carpet, what's gonna keep your dog from ruining it again?
Well we are moving out. So we have $260 in total deposits. We have to pay $500 for the carpet and $400 for last months rent. But here is the deal, we move in at our new place on the 1st of september and move out here on the 21st of september so we have to pay the $400 for last months rent and $775 at the same time for our new place. The only reason we have to pay the extra $400 is because we put in a move out notice 30 days before we move out but it is really 60 days. So we cant pay all of that all at the same time.
In that case, you're screwed. I would have done what Jake00 said. Next time keep it to yourself. Though you might lose $260 in damage deposits, it's still cheaper than $500 plus the damage deposit. Unless you can somehow blame it on the cat, as you mentioned there was a separate cat deposit.
