Anytime the temps drop below about 35 degrees, my truck will not start with any of the Predator tunes installed. I have replaced the GPR, and the glow plugs check out fine. If I remove the tune, the truck starts perfect everytime. After calling Diablosport, all they say is that I have to plug the block heater in. This is not always possible at work etc.. Has anyone else had this problem?? Any way around it, or should I just dump the Predator and find a new chip?
I have used the Predator in the past with no cold start issues. However, most of you guys in the North would not consider an Alabama winter morning cold.
I run a predator and have never had any cold start problems when I had good batteries. Only time I have ever had a no-start is when it got to almost 30 below with no block heater, and the gas vehicles didn't want to start.
I had the predator also and never ran across that problem even when I went home to South Dakota during the winter. I think the answere they gave you was not very well researched. The truck should start easily at 35 degrees. Especially when it starts fine when back to the stock program. I kept the predator as a code reader and bought one of Tony Wildman's 4 position chips (http://members.***.net/totaldieselperformance/total%20diesel%20performance.html). Glad a switched, put the predator to shame. Just wish I would have bought the chip first & saved the $400.
Like I said, I kept the predator as a code reader but it has been giving me problems lately. When I get the SES light on after romping on the go pedal I will get no codes present from the predator when I know there should be one since the SES light is on. So I clear the codes anyway and I go back to check again and it shows me my standard two, AIH & EBPV. Go figure. I called Diablo and all they said was "that's strange".
Think I will put the predator on my desk as a paper weight and buy the Auto Enginuity package from ITP.
I would get the chip - you'll be very happy with the performance!
