Rear end (8.8)

This weekend I had my 8.8 rear end swapped out when my gears messed up. The guy that replaced it put a used 8.8 in. Now I am noticeing a very bad grinding sound when I hit the brakes, and when I first touch the gas and right before I let off. I am kinda leaning toward the bearings but am not very sure. Its on an '83 bronco.

change the fluid in the rear diff and see if it gets better. if there is a limited slip back there be sure to get the tube of friction modifier to add to the gear oil

If he swapped out the entire rear end, including brakes, he could have installed a one with bad brakes. Were new brakes installed?

Yeah, I would pull the wheels & drums and check the brakes out. Grinding is not good.

from the description,it sounds like bearings,pinion or carrier

I had that happen before and it was because the brakes were so far gone that the rivets were chewing into the drum. It made a hellish grinding noise every time I hit the brakes.

The problem was very weird turned out to be the transfer case was going out, everyone I have talked to says that its pretty uncommon to have one go out but guess they do LOL But got it fixed and shes runnin good as ever
