04/01

My sticker in the door says my truck was made 04/01. Does it not have the better rods?

IIRC You have the PMR's. I did think that i read somewhere about some 01's having Forged but i think that 04/01 is pure PMR.

Another PSD site says 350 HP is about the limit but they were referring to a gut pushing 400 w/PMR's

IIRC 10-00 was the cut off date, but there are a few afterwards that came with forged.

Try this link, lots of picts.

There is a way to check your rods without taking the engine apart. There is a plug (1/2 NPT IIRC) near the oil filter in the block. If you remove it you can see one of the rods, but you gotta know what your looking for. The site above has many picts to help you.

It is said that the PMR's will grenade at 400RWHP so 350 is a good number to keep under.

Someone posted a while back the engiine serial number that broke the line between Forged and PMR's but I'll be danged if I can find it now

Found it: When you search it helps to be able to spell "Engne" correctly

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/4...+Serial+Number

I got forged Yahoo........

If the sticker on the engine says it has 250hp. Is that at the crank or wheels? In other words, if I got Jody's 120hp tune would I be safe?

That is what the engine will put it out. That is not at the wheels but at the crank.

Thanks for all the good info. By the way. About how much torque will be made at 350-375rwhp? Just curious.

General rule of thumb, the 7.3 almost doubles torque for HP, so if you truley make 350 the the rear, you'd be pushing 700ftlbs
