97 with 5 speed trans and luk clutch...luk has been in for over 50K miles..truck has always done this since i had owned it.(13000 miles). only in first and second gear the shifter shakes...truck sorta of shakes a lil bit..maybe more of a vibrate under 2000 rpm....then goes away above it....3rd gear and higher are all ok. i hooked up my dads truck and towed him home about 1 mile..abotu 8000 lbs...shaked real bad then..duno bout 3rd gear adn higher..went slow and never got out of 2nd or so...btu shook real bad then..also tonight--towed friends explorer home...didnt get into throttle much and it was smooth--then got into throttle to try and accelerate faster--started to shake again---btu comes out of it above 2000 rpm...clutch has roughly 1/4 inch materila on both sides..maybe a tad less..and truck has always done this for time i owned it. has single mass flywheel---any thought as to what it is?...not really a concern--but when i tow stuff i could see it possibly being a problem....just wonderin what anybody elses input is?
Have you checked your driveshaft ? The slip spline could be binding putting pressure on your tranny or rear under load. also check to see if your u-joints are in phase, meaning that they are lined up properly. are you 2 or 4wd ?

im 4wd..and what is the slip spline? truck isn't lifted or anything, so there shouldnt' be any different angles or geometry with the drive shafts. and by in phase, you mean the the holes on each end have the same centerline?
The slip spline is in the center of the shaft & allows it to move in & out as the suspension flexes. if it becomes frozen & unable to move it could put too much preload on bearings. mine is right after the hanger bearing which is also another thing to check. The rubber isolator for the hanger bearing could be bad or the bearing itself.
While these things might not be the problem, they are easy to check. & rule # 1 is eliminate the easy stuff first before going to the hard expensive stuff. Your phase discription is good. if not clocked properly, u-joints will get into a bind
allright i think i know what your talking abotu now..i'll check those things this weekend if it warms up..(it's 30 degrees and snowing here in illinois)
