installed a manual transmission pcm.had to wire in reverse switch and engine coolant temp sensor.some other wireing had to be done too. my friend was a big help and did all the technical work.
i have about 600miles on it since conversion. no problems. better fuel economy though. also feels like a real truck now. i hate automatics. wish they were never designed.
What year is your truck, was the doner truck the same? did you have to make cuts in firewall for clutch arrangement?
I will tell you when I realized my truck could have been a 5 or 6 speed I thought I screwed up. The only dislike I really have is my auto trans, would change it in a heartbeat if I knew how and would not cost me an arm or a leg
had to remove the rubber plugs on firewall. had to weld a plate on floor where shift cable came through. had to cut the floor pan. then weld a mini hump on floor. shift tower sticks through about 3inches. rubber boot hides it so its all good. my truck is a 2002. my friends truck is a 1999. i took his manual and he took my sissymatic.
Cool man, I bet if you would have posted this as a question on any forum, you would only get replies like- trade in your pickup, not cost effective, your dumb, etc. Good for you.
i wanted to buy a stick when i bought this truck. searched for two weeks within a 500mile radius. there was nothing out there. so i settled on this one. since i have done stuff to it. it is not cost effective to trade it in. i would lose. makes more sense to jsut keep modifying at this point.
i do not recomend this conversion to anyone unless you are or know someone that knows these trucks and can read wiring diagrams. trust me this was not a 123 project. putting the auto in my friends truck was a more involved. his truck was not set up for a electronic trans. he had over 30wires he had to wire in the pcm harness. his truck also runs with no problems. both trucks look factory. no hacking wires or anything.

The reason it was cost effective for him was he had a trade pre-arranged to switch auto to manual.
If you had to buy the tranny, pedal, and all the other goodies, AND you don't have the expertise to do it YOURSELF, you're talking big bucks.
For people who won't do it themselves and are starting with NOTHING, the general consensus is to just buy a different truck.
