What I'm working with: 2006 4x2 XLT 4.6L. All stock exterior equipment.
Had front windows tinted then had to be stripped because windows were bubbled and wavy - dealer to replace windows.
Added the add-on door keypad. Placed 1-2 inches above door handle.
Also added remote start/alarm but this didn't require any removal of door panels, etc (I think).
The noise happens at speeds around 52-67 or so. Sounds like it comes from the front driver's side area, sometimes sounds like it could be in the door panel, other times seems like maybe around the tire or so. It almost sounds like a sheet of metal occasionally "clapping" against other metal to me. Other passengers barely hear anything. It's not loud, but I can't determine what or where to start. The radio nearly drowns it out completely, especially when it's loud. Not in my expectations though for a $25K purchase. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks for any help or even just reading this!
?????????????????????????????????????????????????? ??????????????????
Hmmm, not if we're on the same page on the noise. It's so hard to pinpoint what's what on this kind of stuff.
Initially, I thought maybe it was the keypad & then I thought it could be the tint stripping job, because they were kind of messy with it but nothing is obviously damaged. But I've got a gut feeling it's just one of those that's always been there.
yea i just found a TSB for a 4x4 solenoid and a vacuum leak....they also complained about the front hubs that were malfunctioning and were trying to engage....My noise only comes and goes around high speed and low RPMs...there is no jerking or anything of that sort when the noise goes away.....
anotherdrone, Take masking tape and run it along the top edge of your windshield where it meets the roof. You will see there is a "gap" in there, cover it up, then take it for a ride and see if that solves your issue. I had this problem with mine. Some guys have filled it in with a bead of black silicone. I haven't filled mine yet because its been summer and my windows have been down.
