1st Towing Experience with v10 Excursion
By comparison - this set up pulls my 6200 lbs TT so much better than my 00 F150 5.4l. Overall I'm very pleased with the v10 - on flat stretches, i could let it go up to overdrive and set the cruise. Once I hit the hills, I would cut the O/D off and just continue on without a problem. i did have one time that it droped to a lower gear and rev'd real hi, but it quuickly recovered and shifted back in to 3rd. It was pretty much my fault for not staying up and letting it fall behind.
Initial take off on a hill is where I was most impressed - one stretch of road had a traffic light on a hill and it took off like it was nothing.
MPG was not too bad - my F150 on this same trip, would get about 8 mpg, the Ex did it at about 10.5 mpg.
One of my biggest aprehensions are the hi rpms - I just get that "hold back" feeling becuase I'm afraid of rev'ing too it too hi and doing some kind of damage. But I know from reading here and in the V10 forum - that this is where this engine operate best. I just have to get over that feeling.
Everyone here has complained about the suspension - but with 6200 lbs, I could barely feel the TT behind me. It may that the previous owner replaced the stock shocks, but since they were painted black by the dealership, I have no way of knowing. Maybe it's just because the Ex weighs more that the trailer.
Overall, I'm very happy with the performance and handling.
