Got a friend with a 94 tauraus 3.0. engine will start, run for 1 second, then shut off. I can hear the fuel pump prime and everything. I cant figure out exactly whats wrong. I think i've tracked down the culprit though.
I pulled the vacuum line on the fuel pressure regulator, and it was soaked and dripping with gas. So for kicks i left the line off, got in the car, and when i turned the key to on, and the pump primed, i could see gas squirt out of the FPR. I could do this like 2 times in a row then it seemed to stop squirting. then if i left it sit for a few min and came back i could get it to do it again. If i held the pedal all the way to the floor and cranked it the car would pop and sputter but would never come close to starting. It would also smell very gasy too.
Is this normal for a FPR? will it leak gas when there's low pressure in the fuel system? Or is it bad regardless? thanks for any help
Okay, now, FPR is replaced, and it does the exact same thing. That is it doesnt shoot gas out anymore, but still starts, runs, dies. Starts, runs for 1 second, then dies, just like i turned off the key. If i hold down the gas pedal, and crank, the engine will not start, but as i'm cranking, when i release the gas pedal it will start, then run for 1 second, and die.
