I hope someone out there can help me with this one. I have a 2005 F-350 extended cab long bed, with a 2.5" leveling kit from tuff country. It rides worse then any vehicle I have ever ridin in. The front end knocks and clunks and just carries on during normal driving conditions, and gets even worse in turns, ecspeically left hand turns. I have no clue what it could be when you get underneath the truck everything looks good and tight I've even retighten all the bolts but still nothing. Hopefully someone out there knows a little more about these things then I do and can help.
We need a little more info. Is this a vehicle you recently aquired and it is has been like it since you bought it? Did you install the kit and it rode good before and poor afterwords? You shouldn't have clunks and if it it that consistent I would take them seriously even if it meant taking it to ford. My first guess with no info would be that something might be missing or improperly installed as a result of the lift kit.
Ok sorry about the minimal information. We purchesed it brand new a lil over a year ago. I only put about 1500 miles on it before installing the leveling kit, and i didnt notice any problems. After installing it I really didnt notice any problems untill about 10,000 miles ago it started(it has 26000). It started just a lil, then got worse, when i got under the truck the first time i noticed the nuts were backing off the upper shock mount so we put new bushings and tighten them back down. The bushings continued to wear out and the nuts continued to back off until one day it did completly and the shock came completly out all this wear on the upper shock mount wore the threads off so i put the stock shocks back on it (we ordered the new shocks with the leveling kit). Its even worse now, but it seems to be worse on the drivers side, going into left hand turns the front end bounces terrible it hard to keep in the road. Thank you for helpin out.
I would jack the front end and check the ball joints, verify that the shock hasn't desintigrated inside. Also, and this will sound wierd, but pull your carpeting back and try tightening the cab body mounts. It is amazing how much they loosen up and can cause some scary clunking noises.
Underneath where your feet are right in the floorboard. If your not sure, just look from the bottom of the ground up and see where the rubber mount is, then pull the carpet back on the topside. For the front you will have to unscrew that plastic trim strip at the bottom of the door.
stock shocks with the leveling kit? i would wonder if they are just shot from being fully extended with the increased clearance. do you have other new ones to put on? did you try to drive without them at all and see if it changes?
