Going to do the Needle Bearing lube. Someone said since Im going to have it apart I should go ahead and change out the axle seals. Should I do this and can someone tell me where they are at and how to change them. Is there a thread on it with pictures? I think I have to take the Axle out, how is this done?
Edit- sorry we are talking about a 2002 f-250 4x4 front axle
I just replaced my needle bearings. I only replaced the oring that was on the hub itself. I would not replace all the axle seals unless they are leaking. They are quite expensive.
Well there are 2 axle seals an inner and outer, whoever you talked to was talking about the outer "dust seal" most likely. They are easy to change if the axle is out, and only cost about $10 each at napa. Go to the top of the forum and click the Sticky for common mods, then click the balljoint thread. Everything you need to know will be in that thread, part numbers will be on the second page I think.
John311t is right about the inner seal, you have to remove the cairier from the differential to replace thoes, and im sure they are more then the $10 outer seal.
The large knuckle seal "Ford #F81Z-3254-CB $26.54" . I didnt replace mine when I did my balljoints because they both looked to be in good shape, and I didnt want to bring my axles to the dealer to have the new seals pressed on. Other then that "dont fix it if it aint broke"
is that o-ring that is just hanging there a big deal. I think its the dust o-ring and from what Ive been reading its pretty normal for it to be broken right?
The one thats just hanging as you look under your truck, on the axle cloest to the housing is just a dust seal. Thats the $10 one, if you take the alxe out id replace it.
