Auto Locking Hubs

Have '88 Bronco II aith auto locking hubs. Went to change out left front axle shaft (Last Post) and when i pulled the wheel off... the Hub came off with the wheel. Wheel is crimped in three places around the hub. Was this done at the factory? If you changed a flat it would leave all the innards and the shaft exposed. SUGGESTIONS???

That's just the natural shape of the rim, and they can fit kind of snug on the hub. You just need to tap the hub out of the rim so you can put it back on.
