I got a question for ya'll about my Dads 94 idi turbo. He's telling me that his wipers only run extremely slow and weak like. From what he said..I think the motor is shot and needs replaced? Any other things I should check before replacing the wiper motor.
Thanks Dave....are ya talking about th switch in the end of the signal switch or somewhere else?? I've cleaned the contacts in the end of the stick. I'm still leaning to the motor. How hard are these to change?
Yes I guess they did move the wiper switch up there in the 94 models. I bet that is a pain to get to.
On my 86 there were three bolts that hold the motor into the cowl area, then one more on the linkage to the wipers.
The three on the outside were cake, but my fat fingers had a little trouble with the one on the linkage. Not to bad if you sit on the engine to do it, my 4x4 makes it hard to reach from the gorund.
If these motors are like the one I had in a 89 F150, they are permanet magnet motor, with the magnet part prone to come unglued from the motor housing. Then it tries to drag itself aroung on the armature which slows things up a bunch. If you have some good industrial adhesive you can clean them up and reglue in the magnets. I've had to do a couple now, sucessfully! If all else fails you can buy another one. Good luck
Don't forget the wiper governor box starting in 92' trucks is located behind the glove box. 91 and earlier the governor boxes were located next to and below the switch.
The problem on my 93 was that the WP motor gearbox contacts had worn out. I ended up replacing the entire motor/gearbox. Fixed it all.
One my 91 the problem was with the governor box. It had some bad electronics in it. The problem was that electronic components started to separate from the electronic circuit board due to vibration in this area. I ended up getting a used switch and goveror box from a local wrecker.
