Hey guys, I was hoping someone could tell me how much travel the brake pedal is supposed to have on an F1? I recently rebuilt the brake system on my truck, changed everything out at the wheels, all new hoses, any lines which were bad were replaced. I put the new master in today, and bled the brakes 3 times around and still cant get much of a pedal, it's like 2" off the floor. No more air comes out at the wheel cyllinders, just solid brake fluid. It's not leaking anywhere, and I just cant figure whats going on, every other brake system I've bled was no problem. It's all drum no power. Any ideas would be appreciated...

Make sure that you have taken up on the adjusters at all four wheels and then if properly bled, you still have too much travel, there is adjustment for the push rod into the master cylinder. That would be the last item that I would adjust.
Incidentally my 49 F-1 ran a 56 Buick Nailhead for many years.
You know I wonder if it isnt the push rod into the master...I had changed out everything but the master last week and was having the same prob, now that I've changed out the master I couldnt think of what else it could be. I bought the truck with barely working brakes, it's been on stands since I drove it off the trailer into the garage and I dont remember where the pedal sat. I'll adjust the shoes farther out, and if that doesnt do it I'll adjust the push rod. Thanks guys.
Adjust the brakes until you hear the shoes dragging as you turn the wheel. You should be able to spin the wheel about 1/2 a turn with your hand. Then see what you get for a pedal height. If it's still low, adjust the push rod for the master cyl. Make sure you don't adjust it too far as to keep pressure on the system, that will also cause your brake lights to stay on.
