fuel line pressure???

fuel line pressure???
how do you release fuel line pressure.. i am about to change my fuel filter on my 2000 expy wit a 5.4 but i would like to releave the fuel line pressure to make it easier.. do i need a special gauge or something?

There is a schrader valve on the fuel rail on the passenger side of the engine. If memory serves it's above the 3rd or 4th cylinder. It should have a black cap on it. Unscrew it and push the pin in to release pressure.

I know there is one other way to relive fuel pressure, but it is a little more work. The way it shows in my Chilton's manual is to disconnect the fuel pump inertia switch behind the passenger side kick panel. Start the vehicle and let it run out of fuel. Only takes a few seconds because there is now power to the fuel pump.

Phooey.. Start the engine. Locate the inertia switch and slap it so it trips. The engine will die a few seconds later when the pressure drops below around 20 psi.
Reset the inertia switch to restart the engine after filter replacement. Cycle the ingition switch several tiles to fully pressurize the system before cranking.
