I am not sure if this will help you or not, but I have an uncle that is working on a 66 mustang, so what follows only applies if old truck hinges
were the same design as mustang hinges.
From what I understand, the hinge pins were basically a big rivet, so one side has a flat head and the other (back) side has an X shape pressed into it. What that was was a special tool used to spread the back side of the rivet and the result is the x that you see. Some shops have that tool and from what I understand if you have a sloppy hinge, just press the rivet again
with this tool and it will tighten the pin down more, with the result being to tighten up the hinge
