89 Bronco - Gauge Issues

Hi all, just got my 89 Bronco today! It's awesome and I look forward to the hunting trips it will be taking me on, as well as the tinkering I'm going to be doing on it! I am trying to do my research but wanted to come to you experts for advice first!

First project - the gauges on the dash. Fuel, temp, oil, battery... none of them work. I have searched the forums here, and did find one thread that said they all share the same ground. My question is, where is this so that I can check it? Also, any other possible troubleshooting tips for this? The speedo and tach work fine, just the four gauges ont he left hand side that do not read at all. Also I will look into installing newer mechanical gauges, but want to try and get these working first!

Also, what manuals/literature should I pick up to help me along the way with my Bronco? I must admit, I love this truck, and have been wanting one since a buddy of mine had one about 10 years ago. I also don't mind getting my hands dirty at all, but am definitely not an experienced mechanic by any means. I appreciate everyone's time, and I apologize if a solution to this has been posted elsewhere!

ChemESGH,

Welcome to FTE and the Big Bronco Forum. We will endeavor to get you the most accurate info we can muster.

Check the Read First: threads at the top of this forum and/or the red link in my signature. Not 100% certain on the location of the ground but if it is like the later models its behind the driver's side kick panel up behind the e-brake pedal. I prefer my Haynes manual over the Chilton's but each have their strong points. You might check the site sponsors and such for service manuals that are available on CD-ROM as well.
