When you turn on the headlights, the dash lights and information displays noticeably dim. This makes it very hard to see distance, milage, time etc. during the day especially if you have sunglasses on. Anyone know if this feature can be defeated? The little wheel to adjust the brightness does not correct this when the lights are on.
Thanks
Update! Temporary solution to the overhead console brightness issue.
I found (by accident) while in McDonalds drive thru, a way to keep the overhead console bright even with the lights on and not disconnecting any wires. This works on my 04/2004 built truck.
Step 1: With key off, turn lights on (either park or headlights)
Step 2: Start truck.
Step 3: Turn lights off and then back on again.
All dash lights will be dim like normal but the overhead display will remain bright. The overhead console will remain bright for the duration of the key cycle unless the lights are switched off and back on again.
I don't know why this works but I found it interesting and thought I would share.
If anyone with a different year truck finds that this works please reply with the build date and any differences you may have found.
