Rotor Feedback

Thought I'd give feedback on my front rotor replacement. After hearing all the problems in getting them off and the solutions ( nuts, bolts to put in place of the caliper to use as another force point, thanks all) I was prepared.
I made sure I had a sledge hammer for bashing, wire to hold up the calipers, pads and time.
Well here goes:
  1. Jacked up the truck and removed the wheel.
  2. Removed the 2 18MM bolts holding the calipers on (after using a large screwdriver to compress the pistons in the caliper).
  3. Lightly tapped rotor.
  4. Picked up rotor off ground and replaced rotor and pads
  5. Went to next side and repeat
That was it. No banging, no bashing and no swearing. I was quite surprised. Sorry that there wasn't more to the story (NOT!)
Just thought I'd let all know that sometimes things work out.

where are you from shov? i'm hoping my rotors will be easy to replace when the time comes, since there are no major rusting catalysts out here in sunny southern california.

Connecticut shore. Boy does it get sloppy here in the winter. Most times it's slush but we do get a fair share of snow. After all the research, you could say I was pleasently surprised when they fell off with nothing more than a few taps rather than hours bashing my brains out. With the salt on the roads in the winter and salt in the air all year round, I was prepared for a lengthy battle.

I wish mine were that easy to replace, I had to use a train wheel puller, which cracked them in half, i hit it so hard with a sledge hammer that i needed to replace the steering linkage

I've done my front rotors twice now, and the rears once and each time they just fall off as soon as the caliper's out of the way. Not trying to rub it in but...... well I am kinda ;-)

Jimmygunz3, Mine were real tough too. I had to take it to a shop and they beat one off and had to cut the other. The truck rode well after for 7,000 miles so I don't think I hurt anything. However, now I get a feedback through the steering wheel - like a smal thump every time I accelerate and sometime when I stop. I can feel it when going over bumps too. The steering feels a bit loose. Had it to the tire shop for rotation and they could find nothing amiss. What were your symptoms with the steering linkage?
