will it work. tranny swap
ive got a 93 explorer with a bad tranny and a buddy has one out of a 2000 mine has a 4.0 motor. dont know if there is a change in computer controls

BIG change.
93 only had 2 solenoids (3-4 upshift and Torque converter lockup)
Newer models (96? and up) were ALL electronic controlled shifts.
It probably could be done, but likely not worth all the trouble it would take to make it happen. Would be a totally custom job from end to end.
