Cab Door Problem

Hi Guys,
I replaced the door weatherstripping on both doors on my '80 f-100. The next day my right side door wouldn't close correctly.

I have to pull up slightly on the door and it was still tough to close. I thought it was the latch so I spent the entire day today replacing it. I got a junkyard piece that closed easily prior to my removing it from the donor vehicle.

I assume there is no adjustment there.

NOW to the reason I wrote this novel. Are the door hinges adjustable? They don't appear to be but maybe I'm missing something.

Anyone have advice on this?
Thanks, Ken

Try closing the door with the window down first. With the windows up, closing the door creates an air bubble, you are actually trying to compress the air inside the cab.
I find that with the window open my doors on my '86 close easilly, but I have to "slam" them with the windows up.
On my '97 there are two vents on the back wall of the cab that let the air pressure equalize when closing the door.
like I said, Try closing the door with the window open first before adjusting anything

I had the same problem when I replaced the rubber on my wifes car. reamer makes a good point too. The door hinges are adjustable, but you need to remove the fenders to reach the bolts. It's a real PITA. You might be able to snake a wrench in between the door and fender, but there's a good chance you can scratch the paint if you are concerned about it.

I replaced door weatherstripping on my '83 and had same problem. Hinge pins & bushings were worn. Got'em at the "Help" section at Advance or AutoZone. Had to remove both doors and then it took a day and a half per door to do it by myself (a real PITA). Changed the window channel runs and beltline seals while the door were off. But it was worth all the effort--NO leaks, NO wind noise. Getting the hinges adjusted was absolutely the worst part; It would have really helped to have known what I was doing. Even after doing the best I could the doors were still too hard to close, but after a week in the Florida sun the weatherstrip "seated" and then they closed properly.

Did they close easily before the new WS's? If so, it's the WS's. I suspect being compressed with the doors closed will eventually work it out. If you start adjusting things, and the WS's flatten out, you'll have doors that don't fit right. As a side note, I've had my truck since it was born and it has never been one of those vehicles where you have to slam the door.

Yeah Piffery1, your quote rings true!

I HOPE it's only the new rubber.

The door worked fine prior to the new rubber. You had to give the door a good push but it was a smooth close.

I'll try the door hinge bolts through the opening as paint is not a worry.

Thanks for the help. Gents.
