posted question on oil pressure, and didnt get response i was looking for. i am not really interested in how many pounds it holds as i am in seeing where the guage should register.
If anyone out there has a 71 ford f-250,360fe, and has factory guage package in it and good motor, where on the scale does your oil pressure guage read, and does it change with rpm's?
The way the monitoring system works the pressure can vary.
The sending unit is a ground out apparatus in conjunction with a pulsing 5v signal.
A piece of engine carbon or gasket material can partially plug it one minute and be gone the next.
The pressure is dependant on a few things, but mainly the clearance between bearings and journals.Heat and expansion will LOWER oil pressure, as will clogged oil pump screens.
If your oil pressure gauge is moving slightly the problem is the I.C.V.R. as it is pulsing too slow.
From your other thread ....You have GREAT oil pressure.
Don't worry about it until the needle barely moves into the L area.
Thanks so much. that is what i was wanting to hear. truck has been setting, so an oil and filter change is due, and will probably put new oil sending unit on it also. if i got good pressure with this old oil, maybe even greater with clean oil!!! Thanks again.
My 71 FE has the standard guages but in installed sturert warners on the dash when i run i keep a eye on the temp and oil..when i built it i pluged and drilled the gallys and installed a 13 qt truck pan and large pickup from a f-600 and installed a 428 windige tray..my psi runs 75 cold and idles at 65 when hot..I run gtx racing 50..good luck with your oil psi...bill
