Body lift

Want to install a 2" body lift on my 86 F150 4X4. I'm pretty sure I have to lengthen my shift lever (auto) and maybe cut clearance on the radiator shroud. Anyone done this before?
How do you lift the cab...Floor jack and 4x4s?
Steering column…Grind rivets or try and lower the hole thing?

I've done it befor move the radiator shroud up, make the linkage to the trans a little longer if needed ( I did a 3in body lift) And the colum will be fine no need to touch. And lift cab with jack and blocks unless you have a lift to lift it up with. Good Luck

i have a 3 inch on my 87, and it looks pretty good. I made my own brackets so i could move the bumper up where it belongs but the only other issue i had was one of my break lines broke, and i had to cut my parking break because otherwise i couldnt put the 3 inch in. Other than that all of my wires were long enough, my steering columb shaft extended out long enough. the only thing that had to be done was the 4x4 shifter needed to be bent or it was stuck in in 4x4 high all the time. (well i am only 5ft 8) it kept hitting the seat. I shoved some 35's BFGoodrich tires on it. and all i have to say is it def looks good, and its not like i go offroading with it... well a whole lot.

Yeah, that's a good idea. Cut the EMERGENCY brake to put a body lift on.......

A body lift is WAY more important than an emergency brake.

you will have to watch out for the e-brake. the lift will put quite a bit of pressure on it. and the ball joint in the steering column will be at a steeper angle then it was made to be used for. I have a 3in body lift on my truck but because of these and more problems I am having with the lift it is coming off. if you do put it on then yes you will have to lengthen your **** linkage, but the kit I got had a piece of steel for doing just that. take the linkage off (mine was a pain to get off), mark a vertical line on the linkage, cut the linkage in the middle of the line, put the steel in between the two pieces, line up the lines again and weld away.

For where i am in the country its not surprising to find that your parking brake doesnt work....esp on the 80's. i see you have an old truck but i highly doubt that the salt content in your state is at all the same in my state... And my parking brake was rusted tight. And unless i wanted to crawl under my truck everytime i want to disengage it, i aint using it. I just throw her in reverse when i am out of the vehicle.

Pennsylvania has tons of salt. Trust me.

You can get new parking brake cables from Auto Zone for about $25 each.

Your emergency brake is just that, an emergency brake for when your hydraulic brakes fail. Not a parking brake.

Believe me you want a good ebrake. My front and rear brakes failed a few months ago while driving, I had to put it in neutral and push it into a curb. I was only going about 20km/h when it happened but my ebrake sure wasnt slowing me down in a hurry

I replaced all 3 cables and the adjuster bolt to hold the front to back(from Ford) for less then $100 dollars total. For that amount of money I would rather be safe then sorry. It is especially NOT worth eliminating it just to run a body lift which aren't all that safe to begin with IMO. Unless it is properly installed that is.

Deal. Stosh I will be over this weekend with a case a beer for you. Be careful I might just get you loaded up and then switch ya trucks!

btw Stosh I think my tranny needs a rebuild - I took it to a trans shop because it's grinding bad between gears and has now started to grind "sometimes" when driving in reverse and second (granny so I don't use 1st) - jackass shop took my $50.00 and told me and I quote "you need a new window crank, you have a dent in your rear bumper, and it grinds between the gears". I found some tranny rebuild kits for around $150.00 - Is this something I should tackle solo or is it worth the $$ to have a shop do it for me? I am pretty mechanical and can follow directions like a champ.
