Hey all! I have a 61 f100 with a I-6cyl and a 3spd and want to switch it to a 460 and c-6 that I just got from a lincoln donor car and was wondering if anyone knew of any change over kits that would make this a bolt in? Any help is greatly appreciated.
hey dude, i'm doing the same thing to my 66 right now. its relatively easy... find the 2 peice frame mounts.. it makes it easier. otherwise use 390 frame mounts from a later model truck liek in the 70's........ and there is a special motor mount if u dont use the 2 piece i dont really konw the part # off the top of my head but e-mail me later and i can get that for u.
of couse upgrade to a latter model v8 radiator. as far as the tranny some will work some wont.. if yours has FIN like things one the top of the housing it wont work without a sledge hammer meeting the top of the tranny tunnel. much better to upgrade yoru tranny to to a truck tranny. you will also have to cut your frame in a 1/4 moon shape for the passenger side mantifold. headers that require no cutting are available and again i am lost as to the part # so e-mail me and i should be able to find that for u. find or make a driveshaft of the length u need. and u might have to relocate your transmission crossmemeber a few inches back but thats no prob. i've done this swap 3 times its really no prob but u gotta konw some little stuff that makes it a whole lot easier.. and the right acc. brackets help a lot too.
feel free to e-mail me at bar55(No Email Addresses In Posts!) i have lots of parts for sale too...
one more thing..... i forgot sorry....... the auto colum u need is hard to find.. but pretty easy to make one your best bet is find one is a junk truck... or i have seen people maek there 3 on the tree work by using the first linkage rod.. its tricky and u have no gear selector but it is cheep and effective.
I don't like to correct people, but the info that applies to a 66 dosen't apply to a 61.
The frames from 64 and earlier (pre-twin I beam) where different. These trucks had a single mount at the front of the engine and two mounts at the sides of the bellhousing.
You will need to install fabricated frame mounts or an after market crossmember mount. I think that Speedway Automotive in Lincoln Ne. sells the crossmember type mount. Crossmember mounts are also available from several other companies.
