61 Volari Front

Hi all I just got in from the f100 SuperNats at pigeon forge and there were many many 61-66's and all of the 61-63's that were lowered had volari front ends, anyone know or have any info on this swap??

Thanx,
Bill

I (and a good friend journyman welder) put a '77 Volare front suspension under my '64 F100 shorbox... I love the ride, the disk brakes and power steering... I have the frontend dropped about 3" from stock ride height.. It was not an easy job, but if you are a good fabricator with excellent welding skills (or know someone who is) then it is worth the trouble... serveral places sell templates to help you notch the frame nowadays... I bought mine from Bob's F100 back in 1995 for $150.. way to much to pay for what you get.. I understand now you can get the templates cheaper elsewhere but do not know where that might be... good luck if you try this setup...

I also just got back from the F100 Nationals-(31 hour bus ride back - but worth it!) You sound as if you were impressed as much as I was. This was my first time to see the show and when I was there I looked for a Ford Truck Enthusist tent or something but could not find one. Anyway there were LOTS of nice trucks and I came back with lots
of ideas like you did. I hope to go back again.
Good luck on your truck!

Did you look at the tech articles? There is one in there on installing a volare suspension. It is for a '53 (and you are talking about early 60's) but it would give you an idea of what is involved, and it tells how to chose the correct suspension. Should be of some help to you.

Just my two cents worth.

Have you considered a Mustang II front kit? They're expensive, but a friend of mine who put a Volari in his 63 step side said he would do the Mustang II instead if he could. Some kits are really expensive. I've seen them vary from $1500 to $2500. The best part is that you don't have to fabricate anything(I don't think).
