I need to replace the steering coupler, or rag -joint on my '66 F-100. How hard will this be to do myself? Thanks, Erik

Erik, Replacing the rag joint is easy. You can buy a rebuild kit from the "Help" section of your local auto parts store for about $10.00 or, (preferred) buy one of the new plastic couplers from the Ford Dealer. The Ford part will cost about $70.00. While your there inspect the lower column bearing for slack and pull the column up and down checking for free play. Any slack is call for a column overhaul. If you find a worn bearing replace it and lube other moving parts with white grease. The extra effort is worth the trouble and pulling the old rag joint is the hard part.

Thanks, William! I found the coupler in the "HELP" section today. Mine was pretty worn out, and started wearing into the pins. How do I remove the pins ? Thanks, Erik

Eric, grind the ends of the old pins off and drive them out... the `new` pins bolt in place...
