The powerstroke has way more potential, but a stocker is only a few horse over a turbo'd 7.3. Not sure there are any stock Powerstrokes left out there tho.....
Note the 95-95 PSD had some teething pains on the electronic injection. Last I checked one injector was still selling for $600 to $800. Apparently you can go thru quite a few injectors on the early PSD trucks.
In comparison you can by a rebuilt IP and eight new injectors for an IDI for the same price.
I would stick with the IDI, maybe a 93-94 turbo to get more torque and a bit more power.
what kind of milage could a guy expect from a 7.3 idi turbo motor in a 4-door longbox 5 speed 4x4 truck? say a '92-'94 model? what type of mods would enhance the milage and aid in towing?
thanks, you guys have been very informative,
Vince
I do about 15-16 mph city with my 91' F350 automatic Crewcab and 18-20 mpg city in my 93' F250 turbo with the 5 speed.
The turbo will actually help you milage unless you are a lead foot. Keeping your RPM down saves fuel. A second Overdrive Gear or a lower rear end ratio will also help.
My 1991 F250 XLT gets about 17-19mpg. Its mostly stock except for an intake mod and a muffler swap. I was planning on using the Banks turbo that I purchased but I decided that I want to see what kinda of power I can get without it. The turbo is still for sale btw
