I'm sorry but I dont understand what you are saying. My last post was simply a clarified/edited question that was more direct than the one that started the thread. My question was not a rhetorical question that I knew the answer to.
It was just a question, to show what I understand thus far of what ya'all been telling me and I was trying to make sure I'm understanding it right. Kind of like this: If you ask a guy for a phone number and he says 359-998-5784 and you say, "so thats 359-998-5784?" then he just says yes or no. You are not trying to answer your own question, but rather you are trying to confirm your understanding of his answer to your question.
This is called feedback. In communication, feedback lets the reciever of the information make sure that he is understanding the information as intended from the transmitter of the information. This also allows the transmitter to make any necessary changes to the way he transmitts his information to better accommodate the one trying to understand what he is teaching.
my question required a simple yes or no answer.
I have not intended nor ever will intend to bore you. In fact this is the second time I recall you posting here (this doesn't mean you haven't, it just means I havent noticed your posts) which means I dont know what bores you and what doesnt.
I hope I have clarified this misunderstanding. If you think I bore you (and I'm saying this nicely, but firmly) no one is forcing you to read my threads. Otherwise, I hope we can both enjoy each other's company and both reap the benefits of each other's knowledge and maybe take home each other's good ideas.
never meaning to flame, just clarify. anyway, back to the subject at hand.

Dwaymar, don't go reading the "Exhaust Installed" thread. If long posts bore you it will put you to sleep.
I guess I'm probably one of the worst "long posters" around. Sorry.
As for talking over anyone, sometimes a couple of people strike up a conversation about some obscure subject that a lot of people don't know much about. In those instances it is easy to get lost in the conversation and not even think about whether what you're saying is going over the head of someone who is sitting there listening to the conversation. The same is true of these online "conversations". Sometimes its just a mental exercise - not intended to offend you or anyone else.
I only chime in with this because I don't want you to develop any hard feelings towards me either.
no hard feeling for anyone from here but you two need to pours some water on those keyboards befor they catch on fire
yeah, I apologize too. I got my computer a few months ago and my spacebar is already getting a shiny spot. I dont mean to talk over anyone and am not intending to sound smarter than anyone or pump myself up. When I debate, I debate rather hard, because I dont like taking things at face-value. I dont believe anything I hear, unless it is phylosophically sound or flat out proven.

I would say yes it will work. This is the same thing I have done. I just done a track on my cluster and it will be here on the 9th. Ill let you know the results that day.
If you have the plug out by the IP, then the wires (2 conductors) are in the wiring harness all the way to the plug in the back of the insturment cluster. That makes installing the tach a plug and play operation. Plug in the tach sending unit under the hood after you install it i the IP drive gear cover, swap the insturment cluster and plug the harness in on that end. Start the engine and you should have a working tach.
Sometimes I post very long posts about some subjects.
I know that I am posting to all levels of mechanical ability.
There are a lot of people that post here from other countries that complicates communication even more.
I know that a lot of my replies go into to much detail for someone that knows a good bit about the engine and truck systems, but I also have to consider I may be posting to someone that has never tried to do anything to their own truck. I am sure some of those people would like for a little more detail than I give. That is one of the reasons I use a lot of pictures when I have one that is relevant to my post.
This is all about being able to share knowledge about how our trucks and engines work.
This becomes even more important as they continue to get older, I know several people have been told they needed a CPS or computer replaced by a "mechanic". I have been told my HPOP was getting weak. There are plenty of mechanics out there that have no ideal how to work on an IDI engine, they learned Power Strokes in school and nothing about the older engines. My 6.9 is the great great grandfather of the 6.0 Power Stroke engine. I wonder how many mechanics at your local Ford dealer could work on a Model T engine?
Let's all have fun here and learn things while we do it.
as dave told you 2new2fords--plug and play--but dont get a gas cluster--been there--wont work--has to be a diesel cluster--also get the sender off the ip gear housing--and enjoy--been there
