Well I just did 4 ball joints on my F-350 with a Dana 60, all is good except I don't have a manuel for the proper torgue and procedure on the tightening those special hub nuts that have the spacer between them. Can anyone advise me on the right way to tighten them down?
the one that goes on first (directly touching the bearing, and it has a small pin/nipple) needs to be tightened all the way. once you get it good and tight turn the hub with your hands back and forth, this will help seat it. then back off the hub nit about 1/4 turn maybe less. use your judgement, it needs to be tight with no play but it should also spin pretty easy. then the lock washer goes on. make sure the pin/nipple gets in one of the holes on the lock washer. this keeps the nuts from spiining off from the rotation of the bearings. then last but not least tighten down the outside lock nut with a good bit of force. this one keeps everything from moving!
Inner Lock Nut, While rotating front disc brake hub and rotor, tighten to 50 lb-ft to seat wheel bearings. Back nut off 90 degrees (1/4 turn).
Tighten to 16 lb-in
Thanks for the help, I got it alll together 2 weeks ago then did an alignment, its tight a real big improvement. Just wanted to say thanks for the help ..
