Hey guys,
Getting ready to drop off my truck rear to a local guy for sand blasting but have a question about it first. The rear is a 72 ford truck 9" 5.5" bolt pattern my question is can i have the axles redrilled to 4.5" bolt pattern or should i buy a different rear. I am ordering my polished stainless steel 4 link this week from tci and want to make sure i can redrill the axles before i go and weld the 4 link brackets to it.
not likely, but you could have custom axles made for ~ the same price a machine shop would charge to redrill with any bolt pattern and center hub size you desire. Don't forget tho that you'll need the right size brake drums to match.
I have had a couple of sets of axles redrilled to a 4 1/2" pattern. The machinist will press out the old lug studs and weld the holes shut. He then drills the flange with the desired bolt pattern. He asks that I bring the correct new studs so he can drill the right size holes. He did a pair for my son's dailly driver about 5 years ago and we have never had any problems with them.
