I got a good score at the yard today, Tach cluster with trip speedo, intermitent wipers and about a half dozen other odds and ends that I needed (air box, throttle cable... etc) for $30 !!!
Anyway, the tach came from an 84 Bronco with a 351. Any problems with putting it into a 302 EFI? I'm planning on just swapping the clusters.
Also how do you get the blasted ***** off the wiper and headlight switch?
I believe you can use the tach/cluster w/ no problem. I don't think it would work if you had a L-6 engine, but V-8 you're OK. As to removing the pesky headlight swicth, you need to be limber. You have to get your hand behind the dash and on top of the switch box itself. Theres a little button on top of the headlight switch. Push it down and pull the switch arm out.
The wiper **** is a bit easier. There is a little friction clip on the arm that you can push in toward the **** and it will release the ****.
One is the comon ground, the other is only grounded on V8 engines. It has a 8 written on the printed circut and tach to show this. The 8 terminal is not-grounded on I-6 applications.
Little spring clips on back side of *****. Depress clips to remove. I use long nose pliers with one jaw on each side of the shaft. A small flat screwdriver works, too. Once you get one off, it's easy to see how they work.
I've never seen any reference to the Ford 300 as an L-6. The I-6 just refers to it as an inline six. Before overhead valve engines, we had L- head engines....the so called flathead engine where the plug went into the head on top.

Yes, that's it! The older flatheads were sometimes referred as L-6's
Sorry for the confusion, sometimes my memory plays tricks. It's not like it "used to was"
