1961 Brake conversion questions

I have a 1961 Unibody that I am looking to switch over to front disc brakes. Is there a company that offers a kit for it or can you switch over to brakes from a later truck? I'm interested in anything that people have tried and had luck with. Thanks.

I've heard good things about the brake kit offered by a company called ECI.

I am going to order from ECI I have done alot of research on the disk kits. At ECI you can choose to get the whole kit or just the brackets that are needed. This way you can get you parts from your parts house. This saves you money from the start.

I did the swap a couple of months ago using the ECI kit. They come with the parts list of everything you will need. The only extra perk I added was stainless steel braided hoses for another $80. Pretty much straight forward. The hardest part was cleaning all of the components that were already on the truck. I even installed power brakes with 7" dual diaphram booster. All new brake lines front to back with DOT 5 fluid to cut down on water absorbtion. Hope this helps.

CPP is good if you have time to wait. Sitting on the phone with their "specialists" for 45 minutes going over every part I needed they sent me the wrong booster brackets and a cross threaded proportioning valve. 3 weeks later the replacement parts arrived with multiple phone calls to ask why the intended receive dates came and went with no parts. They do have some good parts but my experiance wasn't the best. 3 weeks to ship 2 items 90 miles is pretty bad.

I used a CPP kit but ordered it from:

http://www.accuautoparts.com/brakeslist.jsp

They seem to have free shipping every so often. It took about 2 weeks but for free shipping I didn't realy mind the wait. I also did the booster upgrade. Its a direct bolt on kit. After finding out what is involved, I probably would have went with the ECI or CPP brackets only and bought the rest from a parts place. I still would have purchased the booster and master cylinder from an aftermarket though.
