Boy, sometimes it just doesn't pay to drive your wife's car....
When driving under normal conditions the trans has a shutter. Anyone ever come across this. It also does it when going up a hill and the trans kicks down a gear. Of course the warranty just expired. It's an 00 Expy.
What speed does the shuttering occur? If it does it around 45-55 mph it's the torgue converter shuttering. Simple fix is drain TC and pan and refill the tranny.
The 4r100 has the torque converter drain. All you have to do to drain the converter is remove the rubber dust cover on the underside of the bellhousing. Then turn the engine by hand (a 18mm socket and breaker bar works best) until you see the small drain plug appear. I believe the drain plug is either 11mm or 10mm.
Chris, I've been experiencing the same conditions you describe and it started as I was traveling out of town. Driving with the OD off helps because it keeps the rpms up. To save some possible headaches, I suggest you get your vehicle scanned first before messing with the transmission fluid
As state before, I am experiencing the same symptoms and my first reaction was the transmission fluid needs to be changed or topped off. Yesterday, I scanned the computer for DTC and I got code P0303 (Misfire on valve #3). Symptons: hesitation during acceleration either uphill or on flat surface - felt like a transmission issue. Note: My check engine light did not come on. The code was a "pending code" My scanner (AutoXray 5000) provided all of the parameters during the last misfire event- rpms during misfire, engine and IAT Temps, engine speed etc. AutonXray is a sweet machine I must say. My research here has shown me that this is a common occurrence for these vehicles. So now I must order a Coil Pack ($24-$27) to replace the one for cylinder #3 clear the code and move on.
So do a research here under "Misfire" and see what you get.
I had the same problem with my 99 expy found it was just a clogged fuel filter and the engine being starved for fuel. Changed the filter and problem solved. No codes by the way or check lights ever came on, very anoying but cheaper than a tranny rebuild.
