Fuse Box Replacement - a nightmare?...

Harrison's fuse block terminals have finally given way to cancer due to excessive moisture from leaks through the cowl and holes in the floorboard large enough to stick your feet through.... but I can't replace the cab quite yet.....

The terminals that hold the blinker fuses and the brake light fuses fell completely apart in my hands yesterday whilst I was trying to troubleshoot the brake lights not working. Looks like I'll have to add a "supplemental" fuse panel (3-4 extra circuits) or a 12 circuit version from Centech (moisture proof) or somebody like that.

I know the battery has to be disconnected FIRST and a few snapshots wouldn't be a bad idea to take before I begin.... BUT what kind of a nightmare am I getting into here to add a sub panel or replace the corroded out original with a 12 circuit panel from centech (the wires are already in the truck naturally..). Is this something a weekend mechanic can do properly on a Saturday or is it a "several weekends" type of job? Anybody ever done this?

Again.... the original wiring is still in place - just the terminals that hold some the glass fuses have corroded to the point they fall apart in your hands...

Thanks guys...

It is a nightmare in the close confines under the dash. When I do work like that I remove the wiring completely but that is a huge job in itself.

You will need to completely gut the front and within the dash area.

Do you have A/C ? if so add another night to the nightmare.

But it is the only way to do it right the first time.

In a few cases ...The grommet at the firewall proves to be tiresome.

Urgh.... thanks, Mil1ion..... isn't sounding too good, here...... maybe it's time to trade up to a new F150 or maybe an 80's S-10 with a 454 swapped into it.....

Nope - Harrison doesn't have a/c power steering or anything else hanging of the 460 - just a 60 amp alternator from the old 6 banger...

awe come on, it's not that bad. these guys are just making it sound worse than it is. should take you a weekend to do, but only because it's time consuming, nothing else. i went through and worked with my factory wiring harness, but i've talked to some of the guys at painless. they claim that if you have wired anything in your car, you can put in one of their kits. its not hard, just takes time.

I concur.. just time consuming.

I would rather go www.centechwire.com than painless though.

cheaper, faster and you get better quality
