Man o Man, had a fun experience sunday this weekend, replaced the fuel pump in the forward gas tank of my 94 inline 6. Now I am a little annoyed as it seems the sending unit does not work either. So now i have to decide if I take it back apart and put a new one in, or just fill it and use it when I need to?
Nope didn't replace it. and before when you switched to the front tank it would drop right down to empty. even with the tank full. figured that was part of the pump problem. issue is now that i only put about 5 gallons in it, just to verify that it works, and didn't see much movement on the guage, but considering it is supposed to be a 22gallon tank, it is a good 5 feet long, not sure if 5gallons would make much of a movement on the guage anyway. might fill it up tonight and see if i get the same results. If so, I think i will just leave it full and drive off it when the back is empty. Have to fill it kinda slow tho, the rubber hose inside the fill tube tore in half during the put back together process, so it fills kinda slow.
Dropped the tank, only 2 metal straps for fasteners. 2 bolts 1/2 on top and 5/8 deep socket on bottom. don't need a ford special tool to remove it. just used a screwdriver and a hammer, make sure you have a pair of wire cutters and crimpers to reattach the cables for the pump. several different "O" rings for different tanks. Make sure that the tank is as empty as possible. the hardest part of the ring was putting it back on. good idea to have some help and a tall floor jack to hold hte tank while putting in place or taking down.
