Hey Guys.. I have an 2003 Expedition Eddie Bauer... No air ride... I have noticed.. That my truck handles a LOT Better when i dont have a lot of people in there.. I actually hate driving it with say 7 people.. It is bouncy.. Doesnt stop as well(that could just be me) and overall handling is worse.. I love it when it is just me in there but that is dumb.. This SUV is supposed to be a People Hauler! What do you think.. I suppose that is normal..?? Just wanted to see what others think.
Do you fancy the Big Guns??? I mean BIGGUNS???hehe...Seems it should take ALOT of weight to change the handling of the truck as you describe.
Seriously though...It should not be noticable having passengers in there with ya. It must be pretty pronounced from how you describe it...Get the springs and shocks checked out. Most places CHECK stuff for nothing.
Hmm if the average weight per person is 150 lbs, you just tossed 1000lbs of payload onto the suspension. You think it should handle/drive the same as unloaded?
I notice it drives differently when I have passengers because I have to switch that Rear A/C on. Boy is that a power-drain! Really no difference in how she handles though. I've been on long road trips with luggage on top of the roof and 7 to 8 people in the truck. The only difference is that power drain from the dang rear ac.

I agree - the curb weight of the vehicle is around 5500 lbs, 7 people will add over 1000 lbs to this, or about 20%. A person who is paying attention will definitely notice that it takes longer to stop (or more brake pressure), and will not handle the same as with only the driver. However, if it is a lot more 'bouncy' as you say, it is possible that the shocks need replaced.
The bouncing is a dead giveaway to bad shocks. The handling of the truck with a driver vs full of people is not that much different, but I don't drive like a race car driver with a full truck either.
I may have overstated... IT really isnt bouncy.. I dont really know how to describe it it just doesnt drive the "Same" to me... The braking is def diff for sure.. not a whole lot just a little.. My shocks are good.. It could be just me thinking it is diff.
Shocks are kind funny beasts in that it not like they completely fail but at 65K they are already well past their prime and while they may function with a solo rider, they have a hard time cooping with full load.
I’d suggest looking at a replacement set and can highly recommend the Bilstein HD’s. Not the cheapest shocks around but imho well worth the extra couple of bucks.
