Are you talking about the steering column? I don't think there were any differences between a 2wd and 4wd steering column. Auto => Manual => Auto/man tilt column's should all interchange, though you might want to go auto too auto so you can shift it into drive
there are a couple different columns...when i put a cab from a 76 F-150 2wd on my 78 F-250 4x4 frame, i had to use the column from the 4x4 because they were completely different.....most 2wd columns have a ragjoint connection, while most 4x4s have a small ujoint connection and are much shorter.....the year model plays a big role as well, so there MIGHT be a possible swap like that, but i dont think so....
I stand corrected then about column differences. Didn't really think it would matter since any differences coulda/shoulda been made up in the appropriate intermediate steering shaft
