Well just as it reads I hit one last night. No body damage but it rolled up under the front end, came out the back. My exhaust has been in need of replacing and she just speeded up that on my priority list. Also may have some kind of drivetrain issue, felt a little vibration in my truck. Only happened a mile from home so I may need a little more seat time to tell. I'll check it out this morning before heading out. Just a testimony to how these old trucks were built, hit her squarly with the front bumper and the only way you could tell was a little hair.
I know the feeling POJ. I hit a 8 point Buck in my '55 F100 doing 65mph. His shoulder and head bent my hood and his rearend caved in my drivers side fender.
I just put the deer in the back and drove on to work (about 25 miles). My brother took the deer to the processor in my truck while I was at work.
Well I checked her over good and my P.O.J. is A OK. Just a minor exhaust leak to add to the major leak at the manifold. Think I'll get my new exhaust ran this week, YIPEE!
No vibrations or bent parts down under. Went back today and it was a fawn so I may have dodged a bullet as I'm sure Momma would have done more carnage!
Yah the car looks fine but if you shake the plastic bumper cover it's all loose. The coon took out the inner fender front half, the support rods, air scoop cover, and about ten plastic pop rivets.
Guy I worked with hit a coyote with a ford probe, it costs so much to fix it they just totalled out the car, lol. My step-dad used to see deer coming and time it so they would hit the side, then he would bring them home (not a very good hunter).
My truck, the "deer slayer", has had her way with 4 does and a 6 pointer, countless other critters as well. They are outta control around here. It's become a joke with my friends and family, tho. She hasn't had a grill since 2004 and I just keep extra headlights and corner lights in the shop for it. I don't even hit the brakes for em anymore
My 66 F-100 got a deer, my son was driving, and went under the truck and got suck in the rear wheel well and jambed the wheel stopped and the truck turnned around because the right wheel stopped and rolled over into the bar ditch landing on her top. My son had to crawl out of the winshield.
I found the pictures of my '55. They were taken in '94BD (Before Digital)
Got lucky and found a salvage yard that had all the parts I needed (hood ,grill, fender and inner fender) and only cost my $150
Hmm, happened back in '94 huh, seem like yesterday.
That was my first truck too, I sure do miss her.
yeah I was lucky when the truck roled over. Thank god those trucks are built tough. I now have the roll bar in my 66. Have hit five deer with mine and have yet to tear it up.
Last November I hit my first deer in 31 years of driving in California deer country, 20 years of driving my '66 F-100 Camper Special. I had a full load of firewood and I had just slowed down to 45 mph in a small town. I was blinded by those damn halogen lights on those new fangled cars, so I didn't even see the 3 point buck until his head was in my headlights. Apparently, the deer was blinded, too, because he crossed between Old Blue and the oncoming car. His shoulder hit the front left corner, then he spun around and bent the strut to my mirror arm, cracked the side view mirror glass, and dented in the driver's door. I thought for sure my headlight was bashed in. I stopped to see the damage, and the front end wasn't even scratched, just the door and mirror. I replaced the mirror from my parts truck, and pushed out the door skin. Old Blue never misses a beat. Same story, second verse......
Does a near miss count? I was heading to work one morning about two years ago in my '65 F250 on a wet road when all of a sudden there were three does standing in my lane. I hit the brakes and was doing the 4 wheel slide when somehow in their milling around and confusion two stepped to the right and one to the left. I slid past them so close I could smell 'em. I'm not sure who was more bewildered - them or me. The only deer I have ever hit was in my dad's brand new '77 Ford Econoline. My folks, my wife and two kids were in the van and they were all pushing on the "brakes" as hard as I was but it didn't help a bit. New grills cost $400 in those days, Steve
