I currently have Buckshot Mudders(305/85/16 and there about worn out. I am thinking of getting Baja Claw Radials(315/75/16) and i want to know if there is any real big differance other than an inch or so? im new to tires...
for those that have Baja Claws, How do you like them?
thanks
do to the variances in manufactuers its hard to tell the total differnece, but
the 315x75 will be about 1/2 inch wider and 1 inch shorter but remember this is just a rough guess generalization.
You don't say what truck this is going on, but from my experiences with tires stick with the 305's.
My 315's mounted on stock wheels rub the springs pretty good on semi-sharp left or right turn.
I will be switching to 305's when these finally wear out.
I have the Nitto Terra Grappler AT and it is by far the longest wearing tire I have ever had. And I have had just about every brand out there at one time or another on both company trucks and my personal truck.
Don't have the information in front of me but I think these have 50,000 mi. on them with at least another 10 left.
Just my 2 cents.

On my '01 stock wheels, the 315/75/16's rubbed also on tight turns. However, they wore better than the 305's I have now. The shorter sidewall on the 305/70/16's pulls a little more on the tread footprint and they wear in the center a little faster. Also most 305's are only load range D... the BFG's 2910 lbs. No rubbing at all though. The best larger than stock tire size for the stock wheels is a 285/75/16 load range D(3305 lbs.) or E(3750 lbs.). Same height as the 305 but narrow enough for the wheel.
Next month I'm going with 18 x 9 wheels and 325/60/18 tires as there are
a lot more tire choices now than there were a few years back so the prices are a lot more reasonable.
A buddy of mine just bought a set of the all new design General Grabber AT2 tires and says they are awsome. They pretty much copied a lot from the BFG's and they were only $125 for 305/70/16.
It all depends if you haul big payloads or not. I tow heavy, but the payload weight is not such a big issue and Load range D is fine for my use.
The options are endless on tires but function and safety is always far more important than appearance.
if you are going to be doing highway miles with it, i would not get the Baja Claws. my buddy has them on his Rubicon and they are only 33's, but when driving behind him at 30+mph, i can hear his tires over my engine, exhaust, and radio.
they would be good for someone who doesn't see alot of highway miles, doesn't mind a loud tire, but needs exceptional snow and mud performance.
