I'm looking at a used gooseneck trailer to purchase. The axle/wheel configuration is diffenent than most I have seen. Instead of 2 dual wheel axles that span the entire width of trailer has a short axle on each side with one wheel mounted under the trailer behind the main frame rail and the other outside the frame rail. Not sure I would even call them axles, more like a couple of spindles and hubs.
I guess the advantage is don't have to remove the outside tire to fix a flat on inside tire. Dis-advantage is have to crawl under the trailer to access the inside tire. The trailer has manufactures label plate with a 25,000# weight rating, 5,000# rating on the hitch. Shows a trailer weight of 6,000#.
Any thoughts as to advantages and disadvantages of this axle configuration versus a standard 2 dual wheel axles or 3 single wheel axles?
