1978 E150 King Pin Assesment

My right front king pin makes horrible noise when I hit bumps and you can actually see the pin when you look at the axle/knuckle assembly. Is this somrhting that can be adjusted back into spec with the retainer or is it going to need replacement? I have found kits with matched king pins and bushings on the Autozone/Advance Auto Parts web sites. Do these require that the bushings be reamed to fit? Should I go for the metal bushings or the nylon bushings? If I don't need to have machine work done, does this sound like something I can tackle in the driveway with basic hand/some air tools?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Never done kingpins on a 78 Ford, but in any event, I would say go with the metal bushings, more than likely they would have to be reamed. You might as well do both sides too. I can't see any reason why you wouldn't be able to do it in your driveway, as long as you have jack stands, and a bfh.

In case you're wondering, kingpins on a semi take about 6 - 8 hours, depending on how much of a fight they put up.
