transfer case question
Im about to buy a 1988-90 f150 from a friend that has no transfer case and it has a 3 speed auto tranny in it(not sure which one), but the truck is in good shape. My uncle has a 1980-83 f150 with a good transfer case in it and the tranny in a 3 speed(but again not sure which one). I am not sure which transfer cases are in these trucks. My question is do all the transfer cases have the same bolt paterns or are some different. and another question that has nothin to do with this, can i take a transfer case off of a manual trans and put in on a auto trans,, thanks

All the ford cases share the same 6 bolt hole patterned. it's the shifters that have been changed which in some cases requires a little work to get one to work with another.
A guess would be the ealrier truck has a 208 case and the later one may have a 1345 case.
I have a 205 mated to a ZF 5-speed. I had to knotch the tail housing to clear the 205 shifter arm and shorten it by about an inch.
