I recently cleaned my IAC and now the truck idles, I'm doing the rest of the tune up tonight, but the truck tends to idle at a higher RPM than normal (atleast what I think it should). Also when I press on the throttle the motor hesitates for a split second and then revs fine. Would this be a TPS (throttle positioning sensor) problem, or something else?????
Could be the TPS also if you had the TPS off it could be out of adjustment, check its voltages.
High idle could also be the TPS, ECT or a vacuum leak.
Did you mess with the screw on the throttle adjustment? If you did you may have a big problem.
I didn't mess with the TPS, or the throttle. I thought i heard a vaccum leak somewhere, but who knows. Thanx for any suggestions. the check engine light comes on, but only when at an idle. I will be checking codes tonight. Thanx again
How do I check the voltage on the tps mine does same thing idles a little ruff but when I give it throttle it bogs down then races up I did have the tps off also when I unplug the map sensor it has good throttle response but it runs rich and smokes a little I recently replaced engine with another one and the one I replaced didnt do that the guy who gave me the truck and new used engine said the new engine did that in the truck it was removed from Ive been trying to trouble shoot it Ive got a volt meter but dont know how to check the sensors can a auto part store check sensors?
I checked with a mechanic buddy of mine. If ur having the same problem I am then you need to replace the TPS. I checked codes and found out that the voltage was low. Should be code 63 if u check it at autozone
I broke down and bought a code scanner and only code i come up with is a code 41 oxyegen sensor running to lean is there any way to check them for resistance or clean them?
The TPS has 3 wires on it, one is the ground, one is the signal wire, and the other is a Voltage reference wire.
The VRef wire will have a constant 5v.
TPS voltage can be measured with a voltmeter. At idle, or closed throttle, it should read less than 1 volt (.85-.95 will be fine) and the sweep should be smooth from closed to WOT, at WOT it's about 4.5v.
